You can blame Gaia’s fury. You cannot blame God’s fury.

When it comes to assigning blame not all deities are created equal. Read about it here

Case in point:  I seriously doubt Danny Glover will be publicly bashed in the same manner as Pat Robertson, though both statements about the Haitian earthquake are outrageous and ridiculous.

I saw an interview with the U.N. Ambassador from Hati where he decried Pat Robertson’s statements about this earthquake and other problems long besetting Hati because of the pact with the Devil they made to rid themselves of the French. Interestingly, the Ambassador never denies in that interview, the long held belief that the Hatian leadership of that time DID make a pact with the devil. I’m not a Pat Robertson fan, but in his defense, he only makes that comment in passing with the immediate follow-up that the country may become open to repentance and the phone number to help the people of Hati was on the bottom of the TV screen the entire time. Of course the media took the whole thing out of context (duh!)

One of my nephews went to Hati about 5 years ago leading a mission trip. He said that the people are so in bondage to voo-doo that the gospel message is not well received. He beleives that Satan has a huge strong-hold on the people. Even many of the Catholics there practice voo-doo as well. Whatever one believes about God punishing a nation for their unbelief in today’s world (“…blessed is the nation whose God is the Lord.” Psalm 33:12) it might be interesting to note that New Orleans, for all of it’s decorative charms and supposed devout Catholicism, is hardly filled with people “…whose God is the Lord”. Please don’t think I’ve missed the verse, “…The rain falls on the just and on the unjust”, I know it does, but the Old Testament was filled with physical judgment from God when Israel strayed from Him and also on nations that did not embrace His people. Does anyone know of any New Testament teaching that would demonstrate a departure from that?

It would appear that Pat Robertson and Danny Glover are not alone in seeing something besides random workings of nature in the Haitian earthquake. http://www.miamiherald.com/news/world/AP/story/1430788.html
